Today the world is as globalized as it could be - - yet we struggle to find meaning in our daily existence.

Berty Bert's got some Seoul

My good friend, and a fellow GM, Albert, visited Seoul a few weeks ago, and it was rather refreshing seeing a familiar face. Let's just say that last time I saw him was via skype a few months ago, but in real life? Probably 2 to 3 years ago. I mean it's been a while. Regardless of how much time had actually passed by, it seemed as if none had. Though age and maturity were on his side, Berty, had clearly held onto his youth and exuberance. Likewise, the particular variation and change in speech when hanging out with Berty is inevitable. Especially since "EVERYTHING-GETS-MORE-EXCITING-WHEN-WE-TALK-LIKE-THIS!" &, unless you've hung out with him, it certainly may be difficult to comprehend my feeble attempt to portray his voice accurately through writing. In any regards, if you ever get a chance to meet him in real life, I hope you get to hear it.

Anyways, Jungle, and I met up with Berty at Itaewon in front of the Hamilton, and then we headed towards Myeongdong, Insadong, SamCheongdong, Bukchon, before heading to Hongdae to grab some dinner. Though we did a lot of walking, we shared a lot of insight about careers, uci, grad school, bakeries, food, teaching, being abroad and away from home for such a long time, chelsea, life, our futures, and our pasts among other things. As we were in the cafe, eating an enormous waffle topped with ice cream and fresh fruits, I felt as if we had taken a weekend trip to SF, or some other city along the west coast, like it was the summer of 2006. How sweet the reminiscing felt.. Unfortunately, during the week I didn't get a chance to see Berty until his last night here (cause he was traveling all over Korea), but it felt genuinely refreshing seeing him in Seoul. Next time, I'll be seeing him in Taiwan!

Photography-wise, I've been inspired by another one of my good friends, 12fv, who has been doing a lot of typography recently, and I wanted to put a few things together here and there, just to see if it could work! Let me know what you think!

enjoi!

The Matter is of Perception

R31-3

After reading through this Rolling Stone article about the infamous Afghan "Kill Team," I was appalled that our soldiers have been unilaterally murdering innocent Afghani's through premeditated acts, and though it may be argued that war itself is to blame, there is no doubt in my mind that these soldiers should not have been in Afghanistan in the first place, or at the very least, pulled them out of there instead of sending them back in for multiple tours.

Does anyone know how long we've been in Afghanistan?

This October 7th marks the 10 year anniversary of Operation Enduring Freedom. Oh the irony. A DECADE spent, trillions of dollars wasted, countless lives lost, and the list goes on...

For what?

Don't get me wrong. I understand that freedom does come at a cost. But, I think it's about time we brought our troops home. Too many loyal soldiers are getting manipulated into serving the wrong causes, subjugated to immoral actions, and devastated by disorders and post-war syndromes. In the end, whose going to take care of those soldiers that have lost it out there in the war-zone? War. It's such an ugly thing. Yet, everyday people find ways to justify it's asinine existence. It's all fun and games, until it's happening right outside your door right? Instead of creating more issues abroad, it's about time we fixed the problems escalating at home. After all, the chickens will come home to roost...

Now, to ease your mind.
