Today President Barack Hussein Obama addressed the United Nations General Assembly, and stated, "in the year 2009 – more than at any point in human history – the interests of nations and peoples are shared."

Picture this:
We are living in an era where super-giant cables that drudge the ocean floor send terabytes (1000 gigabytes) of information across the world in mere milli-seconds. Satellites in space carefully redirect our drives (via global positioning system) making the commute shorter, and making it near impossible to get lost in Springfield… Massachusetts, Missouri or Illinois for that matter. I guess you can’t blame technology. We all kind of asked for it, don’t you think so? My guess is that we’ll be watching HD television for another 10 years before we jump to Super-CRAZY-upgraded High Definition.

unless a catastrophic event creates a dramatic u-turn in modern human advancement, technology will continue to rule us all. Even through our economic crisis, and the burst of the techno-bubble, I really don’t see signs of technology slowing down. So instead of fighting it with our sticks and stones, I guess the best we can do is cope with it. Who knows how the future will play out? Imagine if you canget “afford” artificial limbs, after you were involved in an accident that might have left you debilitated, and unable to walk. Wouldn't you want bionic legs, over being handicapped for the rest of your life?

Aye, aye. The world is as globalized as it has ever been. Yet, I have never felt more distant to non-Americans in my life than now. Sure, I’ll read the news, and the world headlines, but what good is reading about all the horrible atrocities happening thousands of miles away in Africa, the Middle East, or Asia… when you can’t do j--- s--- about it unless you’re there in the front lines. So while we sit comfortably in our backyards, under a clear night, this is the freedom that our parents (or their parents, and even their parents) sought after, away from the perils they've escaped. We mustn't forget that.
This young girl speaks to the UN about making the world a better place to live in for everyone’s future. She makes a desperate plea to the delegates about the harmful effects of chem-trails, the poisoned salmon, and a depleting ozone layer. Has anything been done? (If you have insight on this subject, please share) Nowadays, even if someone's an earnest environmentalist, most people will avoid that person at the local shopping centre if that person is rocking a Green Peace tee shirt. (Don't get me wrong, we live in a beautiful country. The landscape of this country is quite a marvel to see) But really, what has been done?

Later that day Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad also spoke at the general assembly… to a dwindled (and dismal) crowd of world leaders. For the second time around, many world leaders walked out before he had even made it up to the stage. As we all know one nation's freedom fighter, is another's terrorist. And despite what he brings to the table, I have a biased view towards him and his regime. At the same time, I am critical of our country's own actions.
We MUST actively pursue our own truths.
We MUST actively engage our minds with others,
and we MUST actively challenge ourselves to make this life better for our future.

Remember, regardless of skin color (or any other menial racial epithets thrown his way), a politician is a politician, and people love politicians that can speak. To politicians, words supersede deeds. However, the old adage will always hold firm - actions do speak louder than words, and will continue to do so. Throughout history, eloquence wins elections, not simply their deceptive promises.
A part of me remains skeptical about supporting BHO blindly, but I believe in his statement. It does make a lot of sense, and regardless of how powerful his words may be, what good is a grandiose speech without action. Not to say I could have said it any better, but I probably wouldn’t have used two extremes to make a point.

It seems as though politicians don’t understand the concept of the “middle ground,” nor compromise. If they did, we would have taken care of this health care reform thing months ago.

Aside from all the political rhetoric distributed like communist leaflets between both men, it seems as though the two have found a common ground.
