the tree line bends, yet never wavers.
no tree stands alone in these mountains.
the foliage thickens deeper into the path.
what lies ahead is certain due to those who have wandered these trails before.
the air is clean and the whiff crisp.
like the crunch of leaves under each benevolent footstep.
it is the forest that speaks to us.
organic, natural, and earthly.
we walk in unintentional synchronization to the sounds of the fauna.
right, left, right, left.
with no regard to civilization.
these woods have no room for unneeded sophistication.
here nature prevails.
the ascent increases ever so slightly.
and be wary of the loose gravel.
a step can cause your downfall.
entranced by the senses, we continue on.
a magpie flies eloquently through the skyline.
secretly it watches us through it's careful gaze.
i stop for a deep breath.
inhale, exhale.
the pristine air is good.
good for the body, the mind, and the soul.
the path levels and we reach the peak.
the tree line opens for us.
seoul in all her majesty.
rows and columns of buildings, roads, and human activity bustling with activity.
for that moment i am glad to be away from the congestion and manifestation of ourselves.
as we descend i am reminded of what is of importance in this world.
for it is nature that will outlast any of us.
